5 Steps to Achieve All Your Goals and Dreams

I’ve achieved many of my goals.  And I don’t say that to brag, but to tell you that I’m not one of the “fortunate few” who was born into money or had some amazing talent or intelligence.

Personally, I think I’m about as much of an average guy as you can get. But I get to do the things I love every day because I’m COMMITTED to my dreams.

Let me ask you – how committed are you to yours?  If you’re so dedicated, why haven’t you achieved them yet?

You may think there are many things holding you back.  But the truth is that these seemingly insurmountable barriers can vanish if you know how to knock them down.

Here’s how you can do it…

Clarify Your Purpose

What’s the purpose of your dreams? What goal will they serve?  This is not the time to listen to naysayers – your family, your teachers, your spouse, your colleagues or anyone else who says “that won’t happen”.

Make your purpose clear. What do you want to do with your life?  Life’s too short to try to live up to other people’s expectations.  Start living yours.

Create a Plan

Having a plan of action is crucial to achieving your goals. Otherwise, you’ll get bogged down by lots of busywork that isn’t relevant to your goals at all.

It’s so temptingly easy to give in to checking your email or Facebook “just one more time”.  Set realistic deadlines and hold yourself accountable – otherwise you’ll come down with a raging case of excusitis as to why you didn’t get things done in time (or at all!)

De-Clutter Your Life

Just like your home or your desk, clutter can creep up and bog you down.  But don’t you feel so much better when your home is clean and your desk is spotless?  Of course you do! Now, put this same tactic to work in your daily life.

Cut the ties with relationships, colleagues, clients, family or bosses who are weighing you down and detracting you from your purpose.  I’m not saying ignore them completely, but don’t be afraid to say “no” either.

People who don’t achieve their goals tend to drag you down with them.

And you deserve better than to be wasting your life away on frivolous stuff. Remove the clutter.

Be Responsible

This is important – especially because it’s all too easy to point the finger of blame to someone or something else.  A demanding boss, a complaining family member, the economy, the alignment of the planets – stop it!

Be responsible for your own actions (or lack of them).  It’s a simple message with a profound meaning. Step up and take control of your own life.

Stay in Control

Don’t rely on other people to come to your aid, or to even want to help. Don’t wait for a blessing from your boss, your family, or anyone else to go ahead and carve your own path.  Start carving it now.

I recently came across a great quote by the Roman poet Virgil:

“Death twitches my ear. Live, he says, I am coming”

Take control of your own actions and forge your own way.  There will never be a better time to act than RIGHT NOW.  Don’t put it off.

These are the steps I take every day to recognize my purpose and live a rewarding life.  How do you go about achieving your goals?  Please let me know by leaving a comment below.

Thanks.

Wonderful inspiration! The suggestion to create a plan is especially important because without that focus you can wander through life moving towards every distraction that comes along.

      Hi Mara,

Yes – having a clear road map (plan) is crucial.

How will you know what direction to take if you don’t know where you are going.

Having a plan also helps you make better decisions and prioritize what to focus on everyday.
